Over 2 days with more than a 70 contributions, the conference delegates gained helpful information and practical insight on the developments in the traded markets.
The Official Opening was a real highlight with Paul van Son, the former Chairman of EFET, Paul Dawson, the new Chairman of EFET and Head of Regulatory Affairs at RWE Supply & Trading, Mark van Stiphout, Member of G. Oettinger's Cabinet, Stephen Asplin, Managing Director, Vattenfall Energy Trading; Edouard Neviaski, CEO, GDF SUEZ Trading; Klaus Schaefer, CEO, E.ON Energy Trading and Bert den Ouden, CEO, APX ENDEX.
Another highlight was the closing session which featured a high level panel on Cross Commodity Trading. The last few years have been very challenging for commodities in general and for European power and gas trading in particular. In Europe, demand has so far failed to recover, while volatility has collapsed and liquidity has become concentrated at the very front of the curve. The relative disconnection between gas and oil prices has also reduced opportunities for portfolio players to optimise their positions and come to the market for hedging and price discovery, despite the increased sophistication and understanding of structured products on offer. The panel shared their views with the audience and looked into new opportunities.
